You can create most types of Instagram posts in Falcon. All posts are created in the Post Editor in the same way. However, when pushing your content live, there is a different process for certain Instagram post types.
Single-image and video posts can be created and published entirely within the Falcon web platform. Once you hit the Publish or Schedule button, Falcon will automatically push your content live immediately or at the scheduled time.
However, Instagram multi-image (Carousel) posts and Stories currently require an alternative publishing flow. That's because the current Instagram APIs do not yet support direct publishing of these post types. Falcon has released a publishing flow app, 'the Hub', as a workaround.
The Hub App Explained
The Hub app is a mobile app for Android and iPhone.
With this app, Falcon has created a way to interact with Instagram on your phone. It allows you to publish any Instagram Story or Carousel post by creating a bridge between the Falcon platform and the Instagram mobile app.
In short, any time you create a Carousel or Story post, Falcon will send it to the Hub app. From inside the Hub app, you can initiate an assisted flow to push your content live through to the official Instagram app. In the next section of this article, you can find step-by-step instructions for that flow.
You can log into the Hub app with your standard Falcon username and password.
Publish an Instagram Story or Multi-Image (Carousel) Post
- Create an Instagram Carousel or Story post. Add your visuals, text, and define all other post options such as a scheduling date and time, or an approver.
Once you're ready to publish or schedule your post, navigate to the Publisher section on the left-hand side of the Publish Editor, and find your Falcon username in the dropdown menu.
You can assign other Falcon users to publish your post through the Hub app, if they have the appropriate user role permissions in Falcon.
If a username doesn't show up in the list, it is likely that the user does not have the Hub app installed, is not logged into it with their Falcon account, or doesn't have push notifications enabled for the Hub app in their phone settings.
Click Send to Hub App or Schedule to Hub App in the bottom right of the editor.
If your post needs to be approved first, make sure the approver clicks the send/schedule button after approving.
- A push notification is sent to the chosen publisher's phone when the Instagram post is meant to go live. It is instant for posts that you plan to publish right away. For scheduled posts, the push notification is sent when the scheduled date and time arrives.
- Click the push notification or open the Hub app itself and find the post ready for publishing. Click Publish at the bottom right of the post.
Your post's media files are now saved to your phone and your post text or Story URL/Swipe-Up is copied to the clipboard. The Instagram app is automatically opened. Make sure you are logged into the correct account and choose to create a new post or Story in the Instagram app, just like you'd normally create an Instagram post.
- Use the media assets that were copied to your phone storage and paste the text of your post or the Story URL/Swipe-Up from the clipboard.
- Apply any other settings to your post. Once you're satisfied, publish the Instagram post.
Within Falcon, your post was moved to the Processing section of the Publish module. Find your post back and open it.
Click Yes, it's Posted. In the next section, select the post that was just published, and click Merge & Finish.
Congratulations! You have now successfully published your Carousel or Story post through the Hub app and your post is visible as published within Falcon.
Other types of Instagram posts (single-image and video) can also be published through the Hub app by clicking the blue link at the bottom of the Publisher section in the Publish Editor. However, we highly recommend sticking to the default direct publishing flow if possible.
- My Falcon user does not appear as a publisher in the Publish Editor.
It is likely that the user either does not have the Hub app installed or is not currently logged into the app with their Falcon account. Make sure the user logs into the Hub app and refresh Falcon in your browser afterwards.
If the user still does not show as a Publisher, please make sure that push notifications are enabled for the Hub app in their phone settings.
- I get an error that says "We could not save the media to your phone at this time."
This error tends to occur only for iPhone users. Certain media file formats are not supported by iPhone, even though they are supported by Instagram and Falcon. Since the Hub app uses your phone storage to pass your media files to the Instagram app, this issue blocks the Hub app from saving your files.
The solution is either to create your post again, with more commonly used image and video file formats, or to try publishing your content on an Android phone.
- My post is not showing up in the Published section of the Publish module.
This issue can occur if your post in Falcon is not yet merged with the version you created in the Instagram app. Be sure to follow steps 9 and 10 from the above instructions to merge the two versions together.
- Why should I manually merge my published Instagram posts?
- Once your post is live on Instagram, we recommend merging the post to remove its Processing status. Merging the Falcon post with the actual Instagram post will not only help you keep track of which posts have been published as planned, but also carry over all notes, labels, the author, and the approver. This allows for more accurate reporting on the performance of your Instagram content.
